ISO 9001

As of June 10, 2025, Sparkman Industries is proud to be ISO 9001 certified through Perry Johnson Registrars.

What is ISO 9001?

ISO 9001 isn’t just a standard—it’s a blueprint for building trust through quality. Recognized around the world, it empowers organizations across industries and sizes to sharpen their operations, exceed customer expectations, and showcase their dedication to excellence.

At its core, ISO 9001 outlines how to design, implement, and continuously refine a quality management system (QMS). Adopting it signals that an organization runs on well-defined processes and a skilled team—delivering consistent, high-quality results, reliably and repeatedly.

Why is ISO 9001 important?

With over a million certifications issued across 189 countries, ISO 9001 stands as the world’s most widely adopted quality management standard. As the flagship of the ISO 9000 family—which champions seven core principles like customer focus and continuous improvement—ISO 9001 is the only certifiable standard in the group (though certification is optional).

But beyond the numbers, what does ISO 9001 actually deliver? Here’s how it impacts businesses:

  • Customer Assurance: The standard demonstrates that an organization utilizes strong quality control processes, building confidence and long-term satisfaction.
  • Efficient Issue Resolution: Structured guidance for handling complaints, which helps resolve issues quickly and effectively—turning challenges into opportunities.
  • Operational Efficiency: Promotes smoother workflows by identifying bottlenecks, reducing waste, and improving resource utilization.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regular audits and performance reviews foster a mindset of ongoing optimization—essential for staying competitive in fast-moving markets.

ASME U

Certified by The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) on July 13, 2024.

What is ASME U?

The ASME U stamp is a certification mark issued by ASME—that signifies a pressure vessel has been designed, fabricated, inspected, and tested in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

Why is the ASME U stamp important?

The ASME U stamp is important because it serves as a trusted symbol of safety, quality, and compliance in the design and manufacture of pressure vessels.

  • Safety Assurance: Pressure vessels operate under high pressure and can be dangerous if not properly built. The U stamp ensures the vessel has been designed, fabricated, and tested to meet strict safety standards, reducing the risk of catastrophic failure.
  • Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Many local, national, and international codes require ASME-stamped vessels for legal operation. It helps manufacturers and users avoid fines, shutdowns, or legal liabilities.
  • Documentation and Traceability: Vessels with a U stamp come with detailed records of materials, design, fabrication, and testing. This is crucial for maintenance, audits, and future modifications.

NBIC U

Certified by The National Board of Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspectors on March 3, 2023.

What is NBIC?

The National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) is a standard that governs the installation, inspection, repair, and alteration of in-service pressure-retaining equipment. The NBIC is divided into four parts:

  • Part 1: Installation
  • Part 2: Inspection
  • Part 3: Repairs and Alterations
  • Part 4: Pressure Relief Devices

Why is the NBIC U Certification important?

The "U" Stamp is a certification mark issued by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI). This stamp certifies that the vessel has been:

  • Properly designed
  • Fabricated
  • Inspected
  • Tested according to the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC)

NBIC compliance ensures that the vessel is properly maintained, repaired, and altered throughout its service life.

NBIC R

Certified by The National Board of Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspectors on July 23, 2024.

What is NBIC R?

NBIC R refers to the "R" Certificate of Authorization issued by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI). This certification allows organizations to perform repairs and/or alterations on boilers, pressure vessels, and other pressure-retaining items in accordance with the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC).

Why is the NBIC R Certificate important?

The NBIC R Certificate is important because it ensures safety, compliance, and quality in the repair and alteration of pressure-retaining equipment. It matters because:

  • Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Many jurisdictions require the R Certificate for any repairs or alterations to boilers and pressure vessels. Without it, companies may face fines, shutdowns, or legal action.
  • Safety Assurance: Pressure vessels operate under extreme conditions. Improper repairs can lead to explosions, leaks, or catastrophic failures. The R Certificate ensures that repairs are done according to strict safety standards.
  • Quality Control: Certified companies must follow a documented quality system and undergo regular audits.
  • Equipment Longevity and Insurance: Proper repairs extend the life of expensive equipment. Insurers often require NBIC-compliant repairs to maintain coverage and liability protection.
